School Peace has been signed in Estonia every year on September 1st since 1999. The School Peace model was developed in the early 1990s through cooperation between Finnish students and the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare. In the Finnish education system, it is considered a cornerstone for strengthening non-formal education.
In 2008, the first initiator, the Estonian Youth Work Centre, was replaced by the Estonian Union for Child Welfare. Over time, various partners have been involved, including the NGO TORE, Eesti 4H, the Estonian Students’ Union, the Police and Border Guard Board, the Estonian Guides’ Association, the Young Eagles, European Youth, UNICEF, the NGO Neighbourhood Watch: school patrol, and the Estonian Youth Associations’ Union.
